yay. i am finally doing this on my own computer, in my own room... :P decided to try msn dial up internet by randomly clicking on an icon on my network panel... and it worked! and msn offers first 3 months dial up free.... so i have free dial up for the time being...since i hav a phone line that i doubt i will use anyway.... should hav discovered this earlier! tried AOL yesterday but it crashed my computer thrice.. =(

had a somewhat bummy and uneventful day.. and somewhat amused by myself... since the cable tv guy was supposed to come between 12-4pm, i decided to make another trip to safeway and get home before that... so i walked all the way to the Albany safeway and that took about 20 min... and after one hour of grocery shopping i realized i actually took too much stuff, beyond what i could carry... but decided to buy all of them anyway and try to lug all of them back home.. so, with 3 2-litre bottles of drinks and various random foodstuff in 6 grocery bags i made my way to the 43 bus-stop opposite safeway... and the walk back home from san pablo ave was unforgettable as i really thought my hands were going to give way... maybe i shouldn't attempt such crazy things in future... when i dun have a car... but then, i still believe that it is possible to get around and do stuff without a car or someone to drive u around, it just depends on your own initiative and whether u are too lazy to walk/take bus...actually i am pretty baffled with myself for buying so much food and drinks, since i am the only one at home...i somehow have this idea that i will keep cooking, or that people would come to my place to eat and as such i seemed to have stocked up food supplies somewhat unnecessarily.. haha.. oh well. at least i know i wun starve =)

the cable guy.
was dozing off on my cozy bed when the doorbell rang. and when i opened the door i must say i had a mild shock, cos the cable guy was this heavily-built, tall black guy... well it's not that i am racist, but somehow i just could not help but feel slightly threatened. but it turns out that he was really nice; apparently the cables in the roof were really messed up and he had to climb up our secret ladder to somehow hook up the cables and stuff. though it sseemed to be a pretty troublesome task, he displayed no signs of irritation nor exasperation; i was pretty impressed by his professional spirit! he took about an hour, and now i hav cable tv! though i'd probably hav to lie on the floor to watch it since our tv stand and couch are still nowhere in sight =P oh yes, and bingru delivered our vacuum cleaner, so i probably have some cleaning up to do tonight.

feels good to have internet once again.. haha am at moffitt library now.. the past few days have been so different from the rest of spring semester that i feel somewhat overwhelmed, but i do look forward to my new 'life'!! moving out has made me think about so many things, and i can't help but marvel at the resourcefulness and helpfulness of the fellow freshmen and i just feel really touched and glad that everything went well...

i have half an hour to do this... so if everything sounds really disorganized.. pardon me... =P everyone has been really nice and i'm really amazed by all of them... ziyang for driving the u-haul all day, for kopping all the household stuff.. for finding cheap deals for the house, for being the only one in the house to do up his room by staying up throughout the night and shaming the girls the morning after by showing off his neat and nicely decorated room... shiyun for being so dear and motherly, who kept worrying about me having nothing to do the whole week i will be alone in the house and who kept worrying that i'll have no food and thus suggested we get more food when we went grocery shopping before she left for her road trip yesterday morning; yingping and clarice for driving me to get my mattress... clarice for having to bend down all the while i was in the u-haul for fear that we get caught for having 3 ppl seated in the front of the u-hual; chester for helping us to ban jia and amusing and amazing me by choosing to sepnd most of the night cleaning up his new apartment before he left for Europe over sleep; yingping and shiying for picking up my cannot-make-it-going-to-fall-apart from UC village in the middle of the night; sumei for being so sweet to offer to stay with her and for driving me around to get stuff... (however i have been somewhat stubborn in staying alone at my new place; perhaps baffling those who have offered their house... i just dun mind staying alone and i like my room =) ) jacqui, chin tah and shi-hua for inviting me over to their new place to have an egg-meal yesterday afternoon....

i never really expected myself to be so 'at peace' and happy doing nothing here in berkeley... it just feels comfortable and nice to explore the place with no stress.... no time constraints... eg. this morning i decided to try to take 52L to sch.. .but to my horror, though 52L was at the bus-stop... the driver told me he will only start work 40 min later.. as a result i decided to walk up Solano.. and made some interesting discoveries...
1) Hair cuts seem to get cheaper as u walk up solano... the first shop i visited quoted me 40 bucks for a haircut... there after, $20 and $18
2) there is a nice little nursery that sells pretty flowers... will try to get some soon...
3) many nice restaurants, cafes and speciality shops along solano
4) saw this bookstore that was closing down.. and was gonna sell its shelves... thinking of getting one ($20) and then lugging it back all the way back home.. haha but thought that was not really advisable...

also found out that it's so different to have ur own house.. to not live in the dorms... like had to go get things like toilet paper, shower cleaner, hand soap, rice etc from safeway and ranch... had to call pac bell for phone line and DSL and comcast for cable tv... there's so many things that I am now doing and i definitely feel that i have to be even more independent than before... which i guess it's a good hting which will make me grow and mature more? and yes, cooking! had the first home cooked meal yest at our house.. with chintah as the chef... ate mushrooms with cai xin.. and the ranch unagi... haha. i expect more to come, and whatever is in store.. i look forward to them with enthusiasm and mild excitement.... ok have to go... .till my next internet access session then! =)
