braindead and upset today. need a break...
just spent whole of Sat writing a history response paper due tonight and the past 2 hours or so recovering from shock after receiving an email reply from this prof who believes that i intended to plagiarize something from a paper. sigh, perhaps i should have been more careful in writing up my research question... because it was just a tentative and early draft of what i'm interested in investigating, i didn't quote my sources and i think that's why the prof (who has apparently came across the paper i quoted from) thinks that i have the intention to cheat and warned me that that is behavior not acceptable of Berkeley students. i'm upset cos i really hav no intention to plagiarize and now he definitely wun help me... and he happens to be the prof on campus most familiar with the issues i want to look at... well i guess i can look for other ppl. but i'm just really upset that he totally misunderstood my intentions (though i can only blame myself for screwing things up). =(

hey mints,
i know u are feeling real upset now, cos like u, i dislike the feeling of being misunderstood, or having my intentions misinterpreted by others, especially in issues/areas tt are i really care about.
but if it really bothers u alot, why not approach the prof and clarify things up, by sharing with him your real proposed topic, and the research work/sources that u have done so far. since he's your prof, and a seemingly "righteous" prof, i dont think he will continue to view you as a student engaging in unethical behaviour.
and also cos it concerns your grade, i think its better to clarify things too, if not, he will have a bad impression of you, which may somehow affect his perception of your paper at the end of the day.
meanwhile, cheer up, yeah? :)
yar i think you should clarify things with whoever this professor is. don't just leave it as it is now. maybe after explaining to him/her, you'll get him/her to understand your real intentions.
on a side note, other profs you may want to try to talk to are aihwa ong (anthro) and you-tien hsing (geog) and lowell dittmer (polisci).
don't be too glum! i think the misunderstanding shouldn't be too hard to clear up.

thanks jun and faith...:)
yes, i immediately emailed him back to explain my intentions... just that i dunno if he will even bother to read it.
jun: no he's not really my prof and it doesn't concern my grade; i just hate to think someone believes i have low integrity...
faith: thanks for your recommendations; i'll definitely try approaching them!
